*SPIRITUAL DATING
“Who Are You When You Choose Them?”
When we talk about spiritual dating, we often focus on finding the “right” person. We ask whether someone is aligned with us, emotionally available, karmic, divine, or meant to teach us something. But spiritual dating invites us to ask a deeper question: What part of you is doing the choosing? Because when you date another person, you are not simply meeting them. You are also meeting different aspects of yourself through them.
Within each of us exist the sacred masculine and divine feminine, along with their distorted counterparts. Think of these energies as existing across a bridge between light and darkness. Darkness itself is not inherently negative. The dark feminine can be mysterious, sensual, magnetic, intuitive, and deeply creative, while the dark masculine can embody instinct, passion, pursuit, protection, and raw power. Distortion occurs when these energies lose consciousness. Magnetism becomes manipulation, mystery becomes withholding, protection becomes possession, and strength becomes control.
The same is true of the light. The light feminine can embody compassion, receptivity, nurturing, and emotional wisdom, but in distortion she may overgive, rescue, or abandon herself in the name of love. The light masculine can provide structure, stability, protection, and direction, but in distortion he may become obsessed with fixing, controlling, or believing he always knows what is best. This is why labeling someone “sacred masculine” or “divine feminine” tells us very little without understanding how that energy is actually being expressed.
Dating brings us into contact with all four of these energies, both within ourselves and through the people we choose. The important question becomes: Which expression feels like home to me? Sometimes we say we want peace while being accustomed to pursuit. We say we want stability while feeling the strongest chemistry around unpredictability. We say we want vulnerability while repeatedly choosing people who make us earn emotional access. What feels like chemistry can sometimes be recognition. Something inside us recognizes an energetic pattern we already know, and that familiarity can feel electric. But familiar does not always mean aligned.
This is where spiritual dating becomes less about judging another person and more about understanding ourselves. Can your feminine receive love without believing it must be earned? Can your masculine create safety without trying to control everything? Can your feminine nurture without rescuing? Can your masculine protect without possessing? Can your darkness experience passion without requiring chaos? Can your light experience peace without mistaking it for boredom?
As these energies become more integrated within us, our relationships begin to change. We stop looking for another person to carry the pieces of ourselves we have not yet learned to embody. Attraction can still be powerful, passion can still be intense, and love can still transform us, but we become more conscious of what is actually drawing us toward another person.
Perhaps that is one of the deeper purposes of spiritual dating. Every person can become a mirror, but not every mirror is meant to become a home. Some people reveal our wounds, others reveal our desires, and some show us parts of ourselves we have yet to fully embrace.
Eventually, the question shifts from “Is this the person I am supposed to choose?” to something far more revealing:
“Who am I when I choose them?”
Because spiritual dating is not only about discovering who belongs beside you. It is also about discovering which version of yourself is choosing who gets to stand there.
